Teaching

November 19, 2008

For those of you who don’t know, I have a degree in Elementary Education. 5 years ago I decided I didn’t want to teach. 4 years ago I applied for a teaching position, went through an intense interview with a large panel of professionals, was not offered the position, and was grateful.

I just found out my Indiana Teachers License has expired. I found this out by simple online research due to my own curiosity. It was good for 5 years. I guess I would have expected the Licensing Board to notify me. Ya know, “Warning: Unless you do x, y, and z, your license will expire on xyz date.”

Why am I writing about this now?

For a project at my job I had to consult Indiana’s Academic Standards, and for some strange reason, it actually made me happy. I then started thinking about teaching and all the creativity that is involved with that – something I usually have to force out of myself. But something that my current job is sorely lacking. And I personally am missing it. The opportunity to be creative. To create. It’s a beautiful thing, and I miss it.

For the last few years every time I had to go into the Teachers Supply store I just about had a panic attack. But I’m curious to know how I would react going in there now…

  2. In college, I thought you would make a good teacher. I still do. But even if you never teach, I agree that you need to find a creative outlet. Perhaps this desire to create is God's way of nudging you into something else. Or maybe he'll provide some other way for you to be creative . . . perhaps even within your current job. Whatever happens, though, I'm excited to see where you go from here!
