Funny Work Story #2

November 21, 2008

Another one. This happened a few weeks ago just before the huge home tour event we did in Beverly Shores.

I got a call from one of our members who had just read about the tour in a magazine or newspaper about 10 days before the tour. I could quickly tell that she was already upset because she “was surprised she didn’t get any information about the tour awhile ago.”

I countered with “Are you on our email listserv?”

“No, not email, because I don’t have a computer.”

Oh boy. This tells me enough.

So then I try to explain how I sent information to our members via email, but not … “snail mail” for lack of a better word.

She then says “Thanks for calling it that. I work for the US Postal Service.”

Oh dear.

I then try to laugh it off and be incredibly friendly to her, explaining how “paper mail” (?) would have to be sent through our headquarters and go through our marketing department.

At the end of the conversation, I say I will mail her tickets, a map, parking instructions and other information to her.

And the best part: She asked me, “Is it guaranteed to get here in time?”

I could NOT refrain from laughing out loud and saying, “YOU’RE asking ME?? Shouldn’t I be asking YOU that!”
